What is PlainFlow?
PlainFlow is a real-time institutional order flow analysis tool for crypto markets. It tracks large buyer and seller activity across spot and futures exchanges to give you an edge in understanding market direction.
What does "flow bias" mean?
Flow bias indicates whether large participants (whales) are net buying or net selling over a given time window. A bullish bias means whales are accumulating; a bearish bias means they are distributing.
How are whale / medium / retail tiers defined?
Trade sizes are categorized by USD value. Whale trades are typically $100k+, medium trades $10k–$100k, and retail trades under $10k. Exact thresholds may vary by symbol.
What symbols are supported?
Currently PlainFlow tracks BTC/USDT across both spot and futures markets. Multi-symbol support (ETH, SOL, and more) is planned for the Pro tier.
How do price alerts work?
You can set alerts for when a price crosses above or below a target level. When triggered, you'll be notified via the dashboard and optionally by email (if enabled in notification settings).
What is VPIN?
VPIN (Volume-Synchronized Probability of Informed Trading) is a classic measure of one-sided order flow. The name comes from the academic literature; on our own data we make no claim about who is trading. What we measured: extreme VPIN readings on this market preceded range compression more often than expansion — the opposite of the folk "toxicity means sharp moves" reading. We show it as an observed condition, not a warning.
What is Lambda (Kyle's Lambda)?
Lambda is the regression slope of price change on signed institutional flow over a trailing 24-hour window. It is intended as a thinness measure — how far price moves per dollar traded.
We tested that against the order book's own measured cost to trade $5M, and it does not hold: the correlation is −0.02 on BTC, +0.24 on ETH, −0.23 on SOL and −0.46 on XRP. On the two smaller pairs it runs the wrong way. What lambda actually tracks is the volatility regime (0.35 against trailing realized volatility on BTC), so we describe it as a volatility-linked state rather than a liquidity reading.
For how expensive the book actually is right now, the execution-impact curve on the Book asymmetry line is the direct measurement. Lambda is retained because it is an input to the frozen regime model, not because it measures depth. It carries no validated directional meaning on our data.
